For Those Without Children

The assumption is that the notion of legacy is reserved mostly for those with kids or who plan on having kids in the future. And yes, kids (grandkids, etc.) are an common reasons to do a Biographfilm. If you have kids, you absolutely should do Biographfilm!

But what if you don’t have kids? Do you then not need to do your Biographfilm??

ABSOLUTELY NOT.

In fact, I will argue that you have even more reason to do Biographfilm.

Simply put, it’s specifically because you do not have children that you should create a vehicle that encapsulates your legacy. Think of it as a substitute for children in some ways. Biographfilm is your baby (so to speak). You see, as much as we love our children and hope they develop into fully-formed humans who do great things in their lives, one of the inherent roles they play — at least from the perspective of their parents — is as an extension of their parents. Parents see their kids as the major part of the legacy that lives on. They are passing on the lineage. Case in point, when my daughter was born I felt an unexpected comfort knowing that my DNA, my family blood line, my legacy, etc. was going to be passed down in one way.

And, of course, we hope that our kids are also able to share what they know of their parents — that they will pass on our story. We hope, at least. But, again, why leave it to our kids to tell our own story? I don’t know about you, but as much as I love my daughter, I’m not sure how well she actually could retell my story. That’s why and where — ahem — Biographfilm comes to the rescue. The bottom line is you should tell your own story. Don’t leave it up to other people, even your kids. It’s not their responsibility. It’s your story to tell. It’s almost unfair to leave that responsibility to your kids.

But, I digress….

Without children, your story is even more vulnerable to the never-ending erosion of time.

There is no binary correlation between Biographfilm and having children. Not at all. Because, Biographfilm isn’t just of interest to people’s kids or family. As I often explain, there are a vast number of people outside of biological family who are within your orbital audience to whom you and your story are immeasurably valuable. You have various people in your life’s orbit whose relationships with you contribute meaningfully to your life. Whether for your biological family or your “chosen family,” your Biographfilm hold immeasurable importance.

You know this already, but having kids isn’t a defining element of your life, who you are, and why people care about you.

No matter who you are, your legacy deserves a vehicle in order to move forward — whether there is someone at the helm or not.
