Frequently asked questions.

  • We film interviews at Biographfilm Interview Studio locations. We do offer in-home filming at additional cost, which will vary depending on the location and circumstances. If you would like more information on in-home interviews, please contact us at (412) 600-2400 or via the Contact Us form.

  • We ask that you plan on three hours. The actual interview typically lasts around two hours, but we take time to let you get acclimated to your environment, ask any questions, and get ready. In addition, it’s common to take a break or two during the session.

  • One of the key advantages of Biographfilm is how easy we make storytelling for you. You do not need to prepare any remarks or comments beforehand, or have a plan about what you want to say or not. That’s our job. We will guide you through the conversation so you don’t have to. Of course, if you want to prepare yourself or have a plan to discuss certain things, all the better! However, you don’t have to.

Generally speaking, it’s always a good idea to think about the chronology of meaningful events or aspects of your life thus far. A little reflection can go a long way!

Also, we recommend that you have a little something to eat beforehand and come well rested. Ideally you want to be sharp mentally, have good energy, and looking your best!

  • This is a complicated question with a simple answer: whatever you want. This is your story to tell. There are various reasons why you may or may not want to discuss aspects of your life. Those are your personal reasons, and we at Biographfilm are not here to judge you or your reasons.

Having said that, our interview is designed to cover the most common topics while allowing your own individual story to emerge. We want you to be enabled to discuss anything you want and nothing you don’t.

  • We do not. Biographfilm captures you presenting your oral history through the interview. We provide you with the entire interview (minus breaks or stoppages) to stand as the narrative portion that ties together your pictures, videos, etc.

  • Your Biographfilm will be uploaded to a streaming service such as YouTube (or any service of your choosing). By default, the privacy of your Biographfilm is set as unlisted or private unless you request otherwise.

You are also given the digital movie file so you can play, store, and backup your Biographfilm yourself as well.

  • Your privacy is our primary concern. You decide who is permitted to view your Biographfilm. We have various ways to restrict or limit access to your film online or alternatively allow access to a greater audience if you so choose.
